use | 3-amino -2-methylbenzyl alcohol can be used as an intermediate in pharmaceutical synthesis. |
preparation | iron powder (183mg,3.29mmol) and ammonium chloride (22mg,0.419mmol) were added to the solution of stirred (2-methyl -3-nitro-phenyl)-methanol (13)(100mg,0.598mmol) in EtOH(5mL) and water (1mL), and the obtained mixture was refluxed for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was then raised to room temperature and filtered through a bed of diatomaceous earth. The filtrate was diluted with EtOAc, washed with water, dried and concentrated with sodium sulfate under reduced pressure to obtain 3-amino-2-methylbenzyl alcohol (70mg,85%), which was a yellow jelly. |
